#HeartAndSole
Since 2021, I've held a shoe drive to benefit those in need in our community. We've amassed nearly 1,400 pairs of shoes since inception and will continue to hold the drive annually each September. The Waukee YMCA, Waukee B-Bops and Fitness Sports have graciously allowed me to use their businesses as drop-off locations. The first two years, the shoes were donated to the Dallas County Closet, but in 2023, we switched our donation location to the Central Iowa Shelter and Services. The Central Iowa Shelter and Services emergency shelter is open 24/7/365, serving men and women aged 18 and older who are experiencing homelessness. They have 150 emergency shelter beds, and each guest may stay for up to 90 days. Upon entry to the shelter, the clients work with case managers and advocates to take advantage of the robust programs and services that will help them secure permanent housing.
Sleep In Heavenly Peace
All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. In Iowa and across the US, too many boys and girls go without a bed—or even a pillow—to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and health.
That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace comes in. We’re a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need.

This event was created as a way to do something hard and give back for Veterans Day. We chose to run one mile every hour on the hour for 24 hours and finish each run with 22 push-ups in honor of Mission 22, a veteran based charity that fights against veteran suicide.
- Total Miles: 24

- Total Push-Ups: 528
- Total Money Raised: $1,000.00.
